Taika Waititi continues to stack up his projects, with an array in development that includes a “Star Wars” movie, a live-action remake of “Flash Gordon,” and his take on the anime classic “Akira.”

However, his immediate focus is on the commencement of production for his upcoming film, an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s sci-fi novel “Klara & The Sun.” According to Jeff Sneider’s report, Jenna Ortega, known for her role in “Wednesday,” is nearing a casting decision for the lead role in ‘Klara.’

The original script draft for the film was penned by Dahvi Waller, the creator of “Mrs. America.” Taika Waititi, potentially, may have contributed to rewriting parts or the entirety of the script. The official synopsis of the novel, provided by Penguin Random House, introduces Klara, an Artificial Friend with exceptional observational abilities, stationed in a store, eagerly awaiting a customer to choose her.

The pairing of Ishiguro and Waititi may seem unconventional on paper, and its outcome remains to be seen as production is slated to commence in March. It’s worth noting that Waititi’s most recent film, “Next Goal Wins,” received mixed reviews upon its release in November.
